Ford Blue Advantage: Used Cars, Less Guesswork

Buying used can get you more features for your budget, but it can also raise questions: Is this vehicle in good shape? What happens if something goes wrong after I buy it?

That's where Ford Blue Advantage comes in. It's Ford Canada's certified pre-owned program, built to make buying used simpler and more confidence-boosting. In this guide, we'll break down what the program is, what gets checked, and how Gold and Blue Certified are different, so you know exactly what you're getting.

What is Ford Blue AdvantageFord Blue Advantage Certified

Ford Blue Advantage is Ford Canada's certified pre-owned program. Think of it as a "checked and approved" stamp from Ford on certain used vehicles.

To qualify, a vehicle must:

  • Meet Ford's age and kilometer requirements
  • Pass a detailed 172-point inspection by Ford factory-trained technicians

Length of coverage depends on whether the vehicle has been Goldl or Blue certified. Enjoy these incredible perks:

  • An Extended Service Plan
  • 24/7 Roadside Assistance
  • Bonus Ford Reward Points
  • Trial subscriptions for Connected Services and SiriusXM

In plain terms, you're buying a used vehicle that's been reviewed and certified through a Ford-backed program, with a few added perks to help after you drive off the lot.

Gold vs. Blue Certified

Gold generally gives you longer coverage and more points, while Blue opens up a wider range of vehicles with shorter coverage.

Vehicle Age up to 6 years old
Kilometers under 130,000 kms
Extended Service Plan 24 months or 40,000 kms
Roadside Assistance 2 years
Ford Reward Points 20,000 points
BLUE CERTIFIED
Vehicle age up to 6 years old
Kilometers under 160,000 kms
Extended Service Plan 6 months or 10,000 kms
Roadside Assistance 6 months
Ford Reward Points 10,000 points

What happens during the 172-point Inspection?

Before a used vehicle can be certified, it must pass Ford's 172-point inspection. Ford technicians check key mechanical and safety components to make sure the vehicle meets Ford's standards. If something doesn't meet those standards, it must be repaired or replaced with Ford-authorized parts before the vehicle can be certified. Inspection reports are submitted by dealers to Ford for that big, blue, check mark!

Why does this matter if you're not a car person? Because important areas like brakes, tires, fluids, and more have been looked at by trained technicians before you buy. Anything requiring repairs or replacement is done. These vehicles don't just "look good" in the photos, what you don't see is taken care of and that offers incredible peace-of-mind for used car shoppers.

Which Certification is Right for You?

Not sure whether to go Gold or Blue? Ask yourself:

  • Do I want the longest possible coverage and a newer, lower‑km vehicle? → Gold Certified may be your best fit.

  • Am I okay with shorter coverage if it means more vehicle options and potentially a lower price? → Blue Certified could work well.

Compare age, kilometers, price, Extended Service Plan length, and roadside assistance. Then consider how long you plan to keep the vehicle and which benefits matter most to you.
